My Weekend

This weekend I went to an Asian supermarket that fascinates me every time I'm there. I don't know if I can mention their name because the photos I took were done without a "permit" (I didn't know you needed one). Plus, I don't know if I can spell the name of it correctly.

These are some live oysters they were selling. I wonder if there are any pearls in them. There were also live clams--I love it when they spit water at you.

These are live geoducks (pronounced "gooey ducks"). They are a large species of clam and are also known as king clams or elephant trunk clams that can be found in the Pacific Ocean in the northwest part of the USA. Actually, they are the largest species of burrowing clam in the world: the shell can grow up to 9-inches long and the necks/siphons can grow up to a meter long. According to Wikipedia, these things have a life expectancy of 146 years, thus making it the longest living organism in the Animal Kingdom! I think they are kind of gross looking, but you have to respect your elders. I wonder how old these ones are.

This is a king crab and he is huge! It looks like this one is attacking the lobsters under it, but it's not. Once my husband bought a live king crab from this supermarket and it kept trying to crawl out of the cooler they put it in....ewwwww.

I got this strawberry soda, too. I could tell it was strawberry by the picture. (Yes, we have a permit to park in the disabled spot.)

The soda doesn't have a lid. It has a marble (shown left) that keeps the contents from pouring out. The top on the bottle is to dislodge the marble into the glass bottle. When I did this, the soda exploded--which always seems to happen to me regardless. At least I was prepared.

The soda was really yummy! This picture is kind of horrible, but you can kind of see the marble resting in the skinny part of the bottle's neck. Neat, huh?

When I went to go eat some chicken, I saw this huge restaurant. It is an Asian buffet place that looks like a palace. I have to go there the next time I am in this town!
