My one year anniversary

As of today, I have officially been a full-time freelance writer for a whole year. The time went by incredibly fast, and I do not regret my decision to choose this professional path for myself. Freelancing has allowed me to do work I truly enjoy and spend time with my family when I wanted and needed. In addition, my commute is a mere three seconds.

Over the last year, I have written over 1,200 articles! This does not include the 22 blog posts I write for clients on a monthly basis, sponsored posts, product reviews or the bigger writing projects that are not published online.

Freelancing has taught me:
  • I must seek the success I desire
  • Routine helps with the success factor
  • Time is money: if I'm not writing, I'm not making money
  • Goofing off is evil for the bottom line, yet is sometimes necessary for your sanity
  • Many people think you have endless amounts of free time when you work for yourself, and don't understand when you say you have to work and lock yourself in a room with a laptop
  • Everyone has an opinion about how and where you should write
  • The best place for me to write is in my home office; anywhere else is too distracting or demands too much of my attention
  • Persistence is the key to being good at what you do
  • The freelancer has to be her #1 advocate
  • Editors are always right
  • Without Internet access, I am doomed
