Tattoo Care

I just got another tattoo and developed an aftercare ointment with products from my kitchen and beauty cabinet:
  • Non-scented, all natural vitamin E lotion
  • Olive oil
  • Lavender oil
In an air-tight container, mix about 2 tbps. olive oil, 1/2 cup lotion, and a few drops of lavender oil. Mix thoroughly.

After washing your skin with mild soap and water and patting dry, apply the ointment liberally. Place plastic wrap over the tattoo and secure with gentle medical tape.

When a tattoo is healing, do not let that tattoo dry out so a hard scab does not form. Scabs or picking at tattoo scabs can make your tattoo look blotchy because doing this can remove the ink for which you paid.

After getting a tattoo, do not soak it in water for a couple of weeks. This means no direct water sprays on the tattoo in the shower, no baths, no hot tub soaks, no swimming in pools, etc. When taking a shower, apply petroleum jelly all over the tattoo so there is less water contact on it. Wash the petroleum jelly off at the end of the shower, before applying the aftercare ointment you made.

Tattoo are cool, but can look really stupid without the proper aftercare.

Note: The tattoo pictured is not mine. I don't have man arms. It is a pic I found online that I thought looked cool. I'll have pictures of mine after it is healed.

Got Chess?

I was in Portland today for a conference. During lunch, I went to the Pioneer Courthouse Square. A couple things have changed since I last hung out there: a new news studio on the side and chess boards around the place. People just take chess pieces and stand around a chess board that is build into the decor and other people come up and challenge that person. There was a guy named Ken that everyone was playing.

I just learned how to play chess a couple weeks ago. So far, I suck. But I am still trying and make some tricky moves that are not expected. Maybe I'll be okay at it someday.

If I Had More Free Time...

If I had more free time I would bake more...cupcakes and such. I promised Kyle I'd make a giant ho-ho for his birthday cake and have yet to make good on that promise.

Baking seems to make people happy. I have a coworker that is crazy about my cupcakes...the marshmallow-filled ones I blogged about last year. Baked goods are perfect all occasions, especially if they look cute. If I make a cake and take it to church or something, I like to make a scene. One year, for an Easter potluck, I made a cake and topped it with peeps chicks holding umbrellas and make edible grass and a lake out of blue gelatin.

The "New" Wife

Funny stuff always happens at church. Kyle's first roommate from college has started to attend and he brought a friend with him on Sunday.

When I was introduced to the friend, I was introduced as: "Kyle's new wife."

I had to had to add: "His new wife? I'm his FIRST wife, too! Ha-ha-ha...I'm his new wife of about 6 years." This was pretty funny to me.

The wedding cake topper pictured here with the mice has to be one of the most horrid toppers I've ever seen. Who would want this?
