Bill Bellamy hosted a comedy special for American Family Insurance called “Stand Up For Family,” which features comedians Rodney Perry, Mark Viera, Donnell Rawlings and Tony Roberts. The well-known comedians performed family-friendly sets that are inspired by experiences from their own lives that you can relate to.
My Favorite videos were Mark Viera’s “Gotta Love Yourself” and “In the Window,” as well as Tony Roberts’ “Do Anything You Want.” The “Gotta Love Yourself” video is funny because Viera demonstrates how women today are powerful and self-reliant. He also states that is more important for a girl to love herself than it is to find a man to love her. In “In the Window,” Viera talks about his nosy grandmother who would shout unsolicited advice to passersby and loved the Latino news show “Primer Impacto.” In the video “Do Anything You Want,” Roberts recalls his grandfather’s driving and how frightening it is.
I like the AmFam videos because the comedians told stories that I can relate to. For example, my grandpa was also a scary driver. His one driving lesson to me was to do exactly the opposite of anything he did when he was behind the wheel. Like Viera, my grandma also watched shows like “Primer Impacto” because she loved gossip. In addition to reminding me about the importance of family, the sketches also reminded me how all of us aren’t so different. There is always going to be a crazy relative, a moocher, a gossip and so on in every family, no matter where you live.
