Bridal Beauty 101: Part 2

This post is sponsored by Dove® ClearTone™ Deodorant - designed to visibly reduce underarm dark marks and even skin tone.

In yesterday’s post, I shared tips about becoming a beautiful bride from the inside out. Today I get down to the nitty-gritty with must-have bridal makeup tips. Let’s get right to it.

Bridal Makeup How-To

Even with the tips that I provide, remember that the best look for you is one with which you feel comfortable. You should never feel underdressed or like you’re wearing clown makeup on your wedding day. When you’re comfortable, you’re confident—and confidence is true beauty!
  • Skin: Always start with moisturizer because it helps prepare your skin for the makeup you want to use. My favorite daytime moisturizers are those that are tinted because they eliminate the need to use liquid foundation.
    • Conceal blemishes with a concealer that matches the color of your skin or is slightly lighter. Apply enough concealer to cover the blemish—no more, no less. If you have dark under-eye circles, you may need to use a concealer that has a yellow tint.
    • Use a powder foundation to set the concealer and eliminate shine. If your skin is naturally oily, use a water-based powder foundation.
Use an eyelash curler to
make your eyes pop!
  • Classic Eyes: You can never go wrong with the classic mix of ivory, beige and brown eyeshadow. To add color, substitute the brown eyeshadow with a dark berry tone, dark blue or evergreen, depending on your wedding colors.
    • Prepare your eyes by using an eyeshadow base over the entirety of each eyelid. The base will keep the eyeshadow from caking-up in the creases.
    • Add beige eyeshadow to the top and bottom sections of your eyelids.
    • Highlight your brow bone by sweeping an ivory eyeshadow underneath each eyebrow. (You can also use a light silvery or golden shadow.)
    • Use a soft eyeliner brush to apply the brown shadow (or a substitute color) along your upper and lower lash lines. If you don’t plan to use eyeliner, you can go a little heavy on brown shadow.
    • Use the same eyeshadow brush to apply the brown shadow to the crease of your eye. The line of shadow should be thinner along inside and middle parts of your eye, and progressively grow thicker toward the outside of your eyelids (like Kim Kardashian’s classic cut-crease look).
    • For a soft look, use pencil eyeliner along the top lash line and, if you wish, the lower lash line. (Experiment with the eyeliner before your wedding day to see which look you like the best.)
    • For a bolder cat-eye look, use liquid or gel eyeliner along the upper lash line.
    • Top off the look with your favorite mascara. If you’re prone to tears, use waterproof mascara.
A lip color that matches the natural
rosiness of your cheeks always looks
great. (No, I don't wear blush...ever)
  • Lips: Base the color of your lips on the time of the ceremony and your wedding colors. The safest, never-fail lip color is one that matches the rosy color of your cheeks.
    • Reserve deeper or darker colors for evening weddings, and brighter colors for daytime events.
    • Always balance your lip color with your eye makeup. If your eye makeup is bold, stick to lip colors that are more neutral, like soft berry colors. However, if your lip color is bold or bright, go easy on the eye makeup.
  •  Illumination: When used correctly, blush and iridescent skin highlighters can boost your glow. When using blush, choose a color that matches the rosy color of your cheeks.
    • Look in the mirror and notice the curve of your cheekbones. Use your finger or a brush and lightly add a bit of blush along the curves of your cheekbones to add dimension to your face.
    • If you want to highlight your cheeks, but are scared of blush, use a bit of skin highlighter along the upper parts of your cheekbone (near your jaw).
    • If you’re wearing a sleeveless or strapless dress, use the skin highlighter on the tops of your shoulders and along your collarbone.
Since I used liquid eyeliner to make my eyes stand out, I kept my lip color low-key.
