Good Illumination is Essential to Bicycle Safety

Riding a bike on the street is scary enough, even in my small town. While the Pacific Northwest enjoys long summer days, it can get dark by 4:30 P.M. in the winter, making bicycle lights a must. Plus, in my state, the law requires cyclists to have a light on the front and back of their bikes.

The lights on my bike are kind of lame, so I was eager to try the Lumenx mountable bicycle light. The company sells a set that comes with a bright white LED light for the front of the bike and and a red LED taillight for the back.

The light features the following:
  • Simple installation that doesn't require tools
  • Ultra-bright, 100-lumen CREE Q5 bulb
  • Up to 400 feet of visibility
  • Shock-proof
  • Waterproof with an advanced O-ring seal
  • Military-grade aluminum casing
  • 1X to 2,000X zoom and flash modes
  • Strobe light
  • 2-year warranty

My Thoughts

At first, I didn't think much of the light when I ordered for this review. I thought it may be similar to the  plastic ones that I have. I was wrong.

The first thing that I noticed is the durable case; it's similar to a tactical flashlight, but has a shorter handle so it's simple to mount on a bike. You turn the light on and off by pushing the button on the end of the bezel, like a tactical flashlight.

My favorite feature is the ability to adjust the intensity and size of the light beam with one hand by sliding the front end of the flashlight in and out, as well as twisting it.

The light is simple to mount on a bike and it stays put. I was afraid that the flashlight would start to point downward, but that didn't happen.

The bicycle light is also great for walking around in the dark. My husband uses a cane. He mounted the head- and taillight onto his cane and walked around for a while. He said that he experienced the same benefits as me and that he was able to mount the light with ease, despite the wider diameter of his cane.

You can't put a price on safety. I definitely recommend the Lumenx mountable bicycle light for day- and nighttime use.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
