“Home-Ec 101” book review

Written by the creator of Home-Ec101.com, Heather Solos, Home-Ec 101: Skills for Everyday Living - Cook it, Clean it, Fix it, Wash it is the perfect book for newlyweds, young adults now living on their own and those who just don’t have a clue.

The book has an attractive, colorful retro-look and relevant information about all things related to homemaking. Solos writes in a witty tone that is popular among today’s young adults. Sections within the book cover how to cook, clean, wash and fix almost anything in your home. This book is like the 1960’s Ask Heloise series for the 21st century.

Unlike some of the homemaking books created by authors with their own TV shows (I won’t mention any names), Home-Ec 101 provides practical and economical advice that takes tight budgets into consideration. Solos even addresses topics that you may have been too embarrassed to ask your mom about. Keeping in the tradition of homemaking books, Home-Ec 101 also includes sample cleaning schedules to help readers maintain a clean home.

I recommend this book as a personal purchase or as a gift for newlyweds or college graduates discovering the quirks of adult independence.
